About the Course:
In this workshop, Elan Shapiro introduces Flash-TEP -- a new evolution in Group treatment and EMDR Early Intervention. Flash-TEP is a combination of the Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (G-TEP) and the Flash Technique. It is presented as a "best of both worlds" treatment option for gentler, safer group work and can be particularly useful when full trauma processing isn't immediately feasible.
The session will cover the background, advantages, and procedures of Flash-TEP, including a guided role-play experience. Additionally, the presenter plans to briefly cover the TEP Suite protocols hierarchy including the Group Resource Enhancement Protocol (G-REP) and Flash-TEP’s significance in this hierarchy.
About the Presenter: Elan Shapiro
Elan Shapiro became active in EMDR early in his career in 1989, after attending one of Francine Shapiro’s first trainings, and later served as an EMDR Institute Facilitator. He was a Charter member of EMDRIA and one of the founding members of EMDR Europe and of EMDR Israel. In 2003, he was elected Secretary of the EMDR Europe Executive Committee and Board, serving two terms until 2011. He published the 4 Elements exercise in 2007. Together, with Brurit Laub, R-TEP (Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol) was developed and published in 2008. In 2013, he first presented his G-TEP (Group Traumatic Episode Protocol) adaptation of R-TEP for applications in group setting. Eventually the TEP-Suite of protocols has evolved in collaboration with therapists from around the world who focus on brief and scalable early intervention EMDR Strategies. Flash-TEP evolved in consultation with Flash Technique creator Dr. Phil Manfield.
Elan has received The David Servan Schreiber Award in 2014 and 2016. Trauma Aid Humanitarian Award in Dublin at the EMDR Europe conference in 2024. Elan sees himself as a tool maker and hub for collaborative innovative work and research in response to trauma. Flash-GTEP is his newest protocol presented as a low activation variant of G-TEP, filling a gap in the intensity hierarchical gradient of intervention strategies.
