About This Course
Recent years have been stressful, with the world experiencing wars, a pandemic, and political unrest. Smaller crises exist as well, with families in turmoil when a child becomes ill, when stable housing is lost, or when a family member struggles with addiction. In these times, need often outpaces the availability of clinicians able to help. Group models of EMDR Therapy, an evidenced-based treatment, allow more youth and families to receive treatment in a way that is flexible and can be implemented with various age groups, generations, cultures, clinical issues, and settings. Clinician skill and confidence will grow as strategies and guidelines for implementing group protocols with children, adolescents, and families are presented.
In this program, participants will learn about available Group EMDR protocols, the evidence base that supports this work, and both how and when group EMDR work can be implemented with children, teens, and families in various clinical settings. Specifically, clinicians will learn adaptations to accommodate groups of various ages, what to consider when forming groups, and how to begin conceptualizing a place for group EMDR work within their clinical settings. Common perceived barriers to group EMDR work will be discussed, as well as effective strategies to overcome them.
Who Should Take this Training:
This presentation is designed for clinicians who might work with children, teens, and/or families either in their regular practice setting or through community and disaster response efforts, regardless of whether they have previous training in group protocols. Administrators interested in implementing group EMDR work in practice settings involving youth and their families will benefit as well.
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will be able to identify research support for 5 protocols for Group EMDR work with children, teens, and families.
- Participants will identify 5 adaptations to facilitate implementing group EMDR protocols with children and families.
- Participants will identify 3 perceived barriers to implementing group EMDR practice and 3 possible solutions.
